Getting into Tarot can be a journey for people, at least it was for me. Here I describe the process and why I use it as a tool today.
Hi everyone. I’m Abbey Pratt-Harrington and I’m sitting in Teague library at Earlham College and this room has kind of been important to me in the journey I’m about to tell you about. So about five and a half years ago I started working at Earlham college at the Newlin Quaker Center where I helped run a scholarship program for kind of Quaker Students. And in this role I was talking to student about what they believed and why the believed that and what was their spiritual journey kind of helping them along this path. I found great meaning in this. I really found I loved talking about these topics. And I started talking about the with coworkers and just the larger community I was in.
Then about four years ago, one of the students in this scholarship program led a workshop on her practice with tarot cards. And I went to be supportive, though I wasn’t really thinking anything meaningful or deep about it. And part of the workshop she passed her cards around for everyone to just look at, and when they got to me, they got red hot in my hand. It was really creepy actually. And so I passed them along, and just stepped back and tried not to think about it for a year, just because I didn’t know what to do with it.
And then I suppose it would have been about three-and-a-half years ago I was relying this story to one of my friends, and he just looked at me and said “you have to try this it sound like its calling to you. Give me a reading.” So I studied the cars a little bit and I gave him a reading-almost three years ago to the day in this specific room, at this specific table I’m sitting at. And I found it transformative. I think there’s no other word for it. I was able to just be in touch with what I call God or the universe, just kind of giving me insight on this person, and their journey, and what they were struggling with. And I was able to sit with this person and talk through those struggles with them and help them figure out how to move forward.
And, so I started to, I guess, playing with tarot a little bit these past three years. Never giving a few reading, never giving anything real specific. I wasn’t asking for payment or things like that. But that’s where I’ve been feeling led between both taking with people about their spiritual journey and using tarot as a way to do that.
So now I’ve created a business called Divine journey where I’m going to be intentionally do this with people; walk with them help, them figure out where they are and where they want to go. It’s going to be soft launching in December, while I figure out a few more things like logo and advertising, with the intention of hard launching in January. And I really look forward to it. I… happy I’m finally following this leading. And I hope you all stay with me on this journey. Thank bye.
